Since 2016, I have been producing music with FL Studio as a hobby, simply to create the tunes I want to hear. I also used to play violin and guitar lessons for several years, which has shaped my musical preferences and the way I approach composition. I love to make catchy, video game-esque tunes and soundtracks for my friends’ projects and films.

Collaborations

Short films made by Sheridan Animation students, that I composed music for.

“TIME” by Dorie

For this film, I was asked to make a soundtrack to help depict two friends that become strangers due to the passage of time. I was really focusing on that nostalgic joy of childhood friendship, and the way life seems to stop when you realize that someone once dear to you is no longer part of your present life. I loved crafting the crescendo of this piece, leading to the isolated, ringing piano which captures the bittersweet moment of realization in the film.

“Fiasco” by Basil

The requested vibes for this song were “whimsical, but with a mysterious note”, with some Louie Zong influence. It was quite fun to mess around with the synth sound in order to convey the techy-mysticality of this little wizard and his wandmaking experience. But of course, the best part was figuring out how to glitch the song and sync it to the animation at the end.

“Current” by Dorie

For this track, I was greatly inspired by underwater level soundtracks from video games. The first version was a lot slower and more peaceful, but it didn’t quite fit the intended vision for the film, which was conveying the fear of losing control. To push the sense of urgency, I added the rapid arpeggio that dominates the the final mix, and it’s perhaps one of the prettiest things I’ve come up with.

“BEDBUGS” by Max

I’m quite in love with the aesthetic of Max’s film, and I wanted to capture a sort of erotic, vivacious nightclub theme with the slightly trap-inspired percussion and repetitive, dissonant melody. As the film is about bug sex, there is an “alien” quality to the track that also came about naturally.

“Hijinks” by Kiwi

What a cute film! Kiwi asked me to make something naive and very childish, so of course I had to include recorder, tambourine, piano and marimba, alongside a simple yet cheerful chord progression.

“MEOW” by Rachel

I was given two songs to use as inspiration: Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and Cat Cafe by Tsundere Twintails. I combined the waltz (3/4 time) aspect of the former, with the cutesy synth sounds of the latter.

“HRTBT” by Jayden

Jayden’s film is the first short film I ever made a soundtrack for, which gave me the opportunity to assist many other friends on their films as well. The inspirations for this film and its soundtrack include ballroom culture and club music.

“The Disquiet of a Creeping Woman and the Iodine Demons Within the Walls” by Jayden

This film was inspired by “The Yellow Wallpaper”. I was asked to capture an off-putting, unsettling emotion, through violins, harps and other various string instruments. Although most of my music is produced completely digitally through soundfonts and plugins, some of the violin in this piece were played and recorded by me personally.
